While in college, I was given a few choices for a project in one of my history classes. We could have written a research paper, create a project or interview someone that would connect with the material we were studying. I elected to interview someone.
I would have never imagined over 25 years later this one assignment would still be impacting me. The assignment was to interview an individual that lived in the 1940’s to learn their perceptive and experience during that time period.
This assignment gave me the opportunity to interview my wife’s grandfather who shared his experiences while serving in the Navy during World War II and her grandmother that shared her experiences, routines and getting to know a group of CCC (Civilian Conservation Core) young men that came to town to earn money for their family.
I reserve the content of these interviews for myself and family but the connections and why Archive My Story was created was because of the impact these stories had on us. The opportunity to create these experiences for other families was too important for us not to share.
Many of the stories my grandparents shared that afternoon had never been told until that time. Archive My Story creates the opportunities for you and your family to share and document your story.
